As you cross the bridge, look to Sandy Lake to spot the legendary Giant’s Heart. Set against the vibrant turquoise bed of this spring-fed marl lake, the heart-shaped granite rock formation is especially visible on bright days. Several native stories tell of the heart’s formation, each including a beautiful, young, native woman and her warrior love. After one of the pair was killed in battle, their heart was carried to this spot in the lake. It is said that on still days you can see the water shimmering over the heart as it continues to pulse for its lost love. Please enjoy this site as you pass, as there is no public parking at this location.
