The Canadian Government began a reformation of the national defense system in the early 1900s, and new armouries were constructed across Canada. The Peterborough Armoury was built between 1907-1908 to house the 57th Regiment, the 3rd Prince of Wales’ Canadian Dragoons and the 24th Field Battery. The Armoury resembles a castle with turrets and arched troop doors. The building was designated as being nationally significant in 1989 and was commemorated with a National Historic Plaque in 1992.
