The Rotary Greenway / Scenic River Road Trail is a picturesque multi-use trail extending from Ecology Park in Peterborough, north to Lakefield. The trail is a mixture of paved and hard-packed limestone screening surfaces as it extends almost 20 kilometers along the shoreline of Otonabee River. The route is embedded in Peterborough’s history as it follows an old CN railway line. Officially abandoned on July 12th 1989, the railway track was constructed in 1868. It served to carry manufacturing goods and raw materials to local industries along the Otonabee River. Today, the foundation of the railway serves to promote good health and appreciation for the city’s natural environment, thanks to the Peterborough Rotary Club and the private citizens' donations which were the catalysts behind the creation of this trail.
